1918-08-04: Handley Page O/400 D-4567 took off from Alquines at 23:50 on a mission to bomb Fives railway station, which was behind German lines. Lt Hammond was the pilot and the two other crew were Serjeant [gunner] Henry Thomas Pheby (British) and navigator 2nd Lt Wilfred Henry Brinkworth (British). Lt Hammond was classed as Missing in Action, whilst Pheby and Brinkworth were listed as Killed in Action. On 1918-08-04 Lt Hammond was amended to Missing in Action, presumed killed, two days before his 24th birthday.
