1918-09-25: Aircraft wires were damaged in aerial combat and he was able to return to base, but crashed in the landing approach. He later died of his wounds/injuries. Gordon may have been flying without his gunner - no one is mentioned as being in the aircraft with him. This was done to increase the bomb load, but left the aircraft all but defenceless.
