269 Squadron. Hudson aircraft FK 791 was on a transit flight from the United Kingdon to the Azores via Gibraltar when it encountered a severe electrical storm. The port engine failed, the aircraft went out of control and crashed near Mira, Portugal. Warrant Officer G.G. McLean (RAAF) and Squadron Leader D.D. McPetrie (RAF) were also killed. Flight Sergeant Potawlka baled out, picked up by a fishing boat and survived. No further details

The Lockheed Hudson was an American-built light bomber and coastal reconnaissance aircraft built initially for the Royal Air Force (RAF) shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War and primarily operated by the RAF thereafter. The Hudson served throughout the war, mainly with Coastal Command, but also in transport and training roles, as well as delivering agents into occupied France.
