Cressmand and his observer (A Mech2 G.D.R.Shearer) were both killed in a flying accident when their Short seaplane was forced by engine failure to land in heavy seas. This occurred 12miles South-East of Fifeness, Scotland. Both airmen drowned after the heavy seas over-turned the downed aircraft.
