Wellington Mk X HZ-427 missing during night operations over the Messina Beaches Sicily, presumed by enemy action.

The aircraft was seen to explode in the air over the Western Straits and crash in flames on land. It crashed in the vicinity of the village of Faro and all the crew members were killed.

Pilot Officer Craig was thought to be missing and is commemorated on the Malta War Memorial but it is now known to be buried at the Syracuse War Cemetery, Sicily along with the rest of his crew members
