218 Gold Coast Squadron (In Time) RAF Downham Market Stirling III aircraft EF 452 was badly damaged during a raid on Turin, Italy. This was FS CA Brennan (RCAF) , on his 21st operation, was killed by machine gun fire from the rear turret of the Stirling flying just ahead of him in the bomber stream. Stirling aircraft EF 452 was badly damaged and the pilot, FS A Aaron (RAF), although mortally wounded, lived long enough to give the Canadian navigator, Flying Officer A Larden (RCAF), flight instructions to fly from Turin to Bone, Algeria. FS Aaron received the Victoria Cross for his bravery. FS Alan Larden, of North Bay, Ontario, made a safe landing at Bone even though there was a 4,000 lb. bomb hung up in the bomb bay. FS Larden received the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal for his efforts.
