7 Squadron (Per Diem Per Noctum) RAF Oakington, Stirling I aircraft N 3664 MG-Z was coned by searchlights and shot down by night fighter pilot Oberleutnant Helmut Lent of the 6/NJG 1, who was flying Bf 110 E-2 G9+CP from Stade airfield. The Messerschmitt was hit by return fire and had its port engine knocked out. The Stirling crashed near Zeven, Niedersachsen, Germany. Pilot Officer HD Brander (RCAF), FS CWD Brown (RAFVR), FS JR Dale (RAFVR), Flying Officer VR Hartwright (RAF), FS DHG Poole (RAF), FS AG Reading (RAF) and Sergeant TG Young (RAFVR) were killed. There were two 7 Sqn aircraft lost in the same area on this date and no Canadian casualties on Stirling I N 6001
