Serving with the 75th Battalion of the CEF, Harold Molyneux received a head wound in the Battle of Vimy Ridge on 1917-04-09. When he recovered, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and received his pilot's certificate in October 1917. He was posted to 56 Sqn on 1918-04-04. In the seven months before the end of the war he accounted for five enemy aircraft and was awarded the DFC. He was posted to Home Establishment on November 8 and the war ended three days later. During World War II, Molyneux served with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
