423 Squadron (Quaerimus Et Petimus). The crew of Sunderland III aircraft DP 181 were returning from an anti-submarine patrol and the pilot attempted a night landing in a rough sea. The aircraft crashed and sank at Lough Erne, Ireland. Flying Officer R.W. Hill, P/Os G.I. Raymond, W.G. Arnold, and Warrant Officer C.M. Hardcastle were also killed.
