77 Squadron (Esse Potius Quam Videri). Halifax II aircraft JB 803 KN-G lost to a night fighterwhile engaged in night operations over Holland. Flight Sergeant T.D. Scarff, Sgt(s) I.D. Crawford (RAF), L. Hannam (RAF), R. Shepherd (RAF), and G. Watson (RAF) were also killed. Sergeant W.R. Louth (RAF) missing. The area of the crash is now reclaimed (ie, drained) land. Addendum: - The squadron was based at Elvington when Halifax aircraft JB 803-G went missing during night operations to Essen. The seventh member of the crew killed was Sgt. W.R. Louth (RAF). Sergeant Louth's name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, the other six members of the crew are all buried at Muiden in graves E.G80 to E.G85.
