233 Sqn (Ymlaen) RAF Sumburgh, Hudson I aircraft N 7377 ZS-J believed shot down by German Luftwaffe "ace" Gordon Max "Mac" Gollob while on anti-submarine patrol over the North Sea near the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Gollob is also believed to have shot down a Short Sunderland flying boat (N 6133 "Y") from 201 Sqn the same day.Pilot Officer RM Buchanan (RAF)(Can), Pilot Officer LJE Ewing MiD (RAF)(NZ), Sergeant RG Ireland (RAF) and Sergeant DC Sinclair (RAF) missing, presumed killed. They have no known graves and are commemorated on the Runnymede War Memorial.

The Lockheed Hudson was an American-built light bomber and coastal reconnaissance aircraft built initially for the Royal Air Force (RAF) shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War and primarily operated by the RAF thereafter. The Hudson served throughout the war, mainly with Coastal Command, but also in transport and training roles, as well as delivering agents into occupied France. They were also used extensively with the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF) anti-submarine squadrons.National Air Force Museum of Canada.
