1916-01-09: RAeC cert. #2315, and accepted into the RFC. He somehow got listed in the London Gazette under the name 'Gilray'. The RFC later corrected this error. 1916-06-03: departed England by air with 70Sqn, for the western front in France. 1916-07-01:Gilroy & his gunner Lieut Ronald Maxwell Phorson (British) were an aircraft ferry team, delivering new aircraft to France. 1917-01-05: Posted to the Northern Aircraft Depot, at Bradford, England. This was a major aircraft repair location for northern England.
