83 Squadron (Strike To Defend), Pathfinder Force, RAF Wyton. Lancaster III aircraft JA 913 DL-G was shot down and exploded in the Schonwalde, near the Spandeau area of Berlin during night operations over Berlin, Germany

Warrant Officer Class 1 KG Davis DFM (RCAF), Pilot Officer KRG Millar (RCAF), Sergeant FR Birks (RAFVR), FS JHS Harsley (RAFVR), FS MH King (RAFVR), FS RH Pennells DFM (RAFVR) and Warrant Officer ST Stacey DFC (RAFVR) were missing, presumed killed. Post war their graves could not be re-located, and they are all commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial

Addendum: - Distinguished Flying Medal - No 83 Squadron - Award effective 30 November 1943 as per London Gazette dated 7 December 1943 and AFRO 240/44 dated 4 February 1944. The citation reads - "This airman has completed many successful operations against the enemy in which he has displayed high skill, fortitude and devotion to duty."
