1918-09-27: Helwig and his pilot Lt Reginald Calvert Bennett were shot down in DH.4 A-7899,and last seen heading North-West from Sancourt after being attacked by seven enemy aircraft during a bombing mission. Both were made POW. Helwig was repatriated 1918-11-29. He lived in Hamilton, Ontario until his death in 1951.
