427 Lion Squadron (Ferte Manus Certe) RAF Leeming. Halifax BV aircraft DK 181 ZL-Z experienced multiple engine issues and turned back early from a raid to Leipzig, Germany. Pilot P/O WA Cozens (RAFVR) ordered the crew to bail over England, which they did but as he was about to bail himself, one engine began to run normally again. P/O Cozens resumed control and crash-landed safely at RAF Woodbridge with minimal damage to the aircraft
P/O Cozen's crew, F/O RA Carson (RCAF), Sgt RB Nairn (RCAF), Sgt J McGowan (RAFVR),Sgt WL Stockford (RAFVR), Sgt H Whittaker (RAFVR) and Sgt C Hopper (RAFVR) all bailed safely and survived. Sgt Hopper was the only casualty with a broken ankle
