408 Goose Squadron (For Freedom) RAF Leeming, Halifax II aircraft DT 678 EQ-C, when returning to base after an operation to Lorient, France, had both starboard engines fail and it crash-landed at Ossington, 11 miles SSE of Retford Nottinghamshire, England
FS WA Neumann (RCAF), Sgt J Blewett (RCAF), P/O C Vogel (RCAF), P/O N Downie (RCAF), Sgt W Ivor (RCAF), Sgt J Veys (RCAF) and pilot Sgt K Greig (RAAF) all survived the crash without injury
Most of this crew would be shot down together 1943-05-27/28 by a night fighter while on a raid to Essen, Germany on 408 Sqn Halifax II aircraft DT 674 EQ-A and most would survive to become Prisoners of War
