Leckie emigrated to Canada in 1907. He gained pilot certificate 2923 at RNAS Chingford on 1916-05-10. He survived the war and ended it as a Major, and the commander of 228 Squadron, Great Yarmouth, England. He was the only airman to down 2 Zeppelins during WWI. Leckie was made squadron leader of No.1Sqn, CAF in 1919. In 1920 he organized and led the first trans-Canada flight starting from Halifax. He spent most of WWII as the Chief of Air Staff, RCAF.. He was inducted into the Can. Aviation Hall of Fame in 1988.
