500 Squadron RAF Coastal Command (Quo fata vocent) RAF Harrowbeer. Blenheim IV aircraft Z 6163 crash-landed near Brest, France, on the beach at Saint Efflam. The three man crew, Flight Sergeant JD Appleyard (RCAF) Pilot Officer F Reece (RNZAF) and Sergeant WH Smyth (RAFVR) all survived unharmed and successfully evaded capture for 6 weeks, before finally being arrested after a search by the Germans in Nantes France to become Prisoners of War
