24 Squadron (In Omnia Parati) RAF Brize Norton, Hudson III aircraft V 8983 crashed at Wendover, Buckinghamshire, England with the loss of everyone onboard. It had been on a VIP ferry flight from Hendon to Belfast to drop off some senior officers, and on the return journey it was once again carrying passengers from the Navy, Army and RAF as well as some civilians
Aircraft flew into a wooded hillside after descending to establish its position (near RAF Rafton).
Flight Lieutenant Davis was born to American parents in San Mateo, California as Philip Meyer. He lost both parents and was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Lady Henriette and Sir Mortimer Davis and moved to Montreal, QC. He was schooled in England and joined the RAF while working in a law office in London in 1933.

The Lockheed Hudson was an American-built light bomber and coastal reconnaissance aircraft built initially for the Royal Air Force (RAF) shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War and primarily operated by the RAF thereafter. The Hudson served throughout the war, mainly with Coastal Command, but also in transport and training roles, as well as delivering agents into occupied France.
