1917-05-14: 2nd-Lieutenant, RFC. 1917-11-12: to be Lieutenant. 1918-05-19: posted to 57Sqn, RAF. 1918-06-06: Kilbourne was OK in DH-4, E-4628; when he hit a ridge and pancaked in a forced landing when the prop struck the ground and broke on take-off for test. His air-gunner, Cpl J Simmons (no forename in record) was also OK. 1918-08-16: Kilbourne was missing in DH-4, D-9267; last seen at 14,000 feet over Quesnain gliding down in a North-East direction, under control during bombing and recce of Sancourt ammo dump. His air-gunner, 2Lt Donald Ernest Stephens (British) was also missing. Both men were later reported to be POWs. Kilbourne was repatriated 1918-12-13
