1916-05-19: posted to 25Sqn, RFC. 1916-05-26: Hay was OK in FE2b, 6932; when the water connections to the engine were shot through by AA fire while on patrol. His gunner, 2Lt John Charles Miller Stewart (Brit) was also OK. 1916-07-17: Hay was OK in FE2b, 6342; when it stalled on take off from a forced landing. His gunner 10291 1AM E Shuttleworth was also OK. 1916-07-17: Hay was seriously injured in FE2c, 6371; when it overshot the aerodrome and over-turned in a cornfield. His gunner, 7258 1AM H Brown was also seriously injured.
