1916-01-01: to be 2nd-Lieutenant 1916-07-05: injured in BE2c, 2772; when he got into fog or low cloud trying to find a landing at Reston near Berwick, Scotland. His observer-gunner, 2Lt Eustace Carleton Berry, (British) was killed in the subsequent crash. 1917-10-31: Hambly relinquished his commission intending to joining the American Aviation Service and is granted the hon.rank of Lt. He did not join the American service.
