1918-05-16: Cowan was missing in Camel, D-9540; last seen at 500 feet, North of La Bassee, diving, apparently under control, with 2 enemy aircraft on his tail, while on an on offensive patrol. He was shot down and made a POW. He was repatriated 1918-12-30.
Cowan was a pilot with the Air Transport Auxilliary during WWII
