Nelson was an American immigrant to Canada, settling in Hamilton, Ontario. 1917-03-31: observer training finished and posted to 63 Sqn, Mesopotamia. 1917-09-02: Invalided to India, returned 1917-12-16. 1918-03-28: posted to Egypt for pilot training. He returned to England 1918-07-04, posted to 41Sqn 1918-10-14 and 84 Sqn 1919-04-13.
