Creery was accepted into the RFC 1915-08-05 as an observer. After pilot training he was posted to 3 Sqn. in July, 1916. On 1916-12-27 he was shot down in his Morane on an artillery observation mission. His observer, Lt John Claudet (British) was also OK He was posted back to Home Establishment in March, 1917 as a pilot instructor.at Hendon. He was in the second seat when his student lost control and the aircraft crashed on 1917-04-25. He was seriously injured and was invalided back to Canada in April, 1918.
