1917-09-25: Baillon and his pilot Capt. John Reginald Philpott (British) were lost while carrying out the squadron’s first mission over Turkish lines. Meeting a Halberstadt fighter near Tikrit, Philpott dived to the attack only to have the extensions of his upper wing fold back, forcing him to make a crash landing in enemy territory. They were made POW, and were repatriated on 1918-11-26. Baillon embarked from Alexandria, Egypt to return to England, and then to Canada.
