Begg, and his observer/gunner Lt EN Baillon, were lost while carrying out the squadron's first mission over Turkish lines in August, 1917. Meeting a Halberstadt fighter near Tikrit, Begg dived to the attack only to have the extensions of his upper wing fold back, forcing him to make a crash landing in enemy territory. They were taken POW. Begg was repatriated 1918-12-18.
