Durham was wounded in the trenches 1916-04-02 and received the Military Medal.. After recovering, he transferred to the RFC. He was sent to the 3 School of Military Aeronautics in Heliopolis, Greece for his flight training, where he remained as an instructor, being promoted to EO1 in 1918-03-00 and receiving the C de G (F) 1917-05-27. He survived the war and returned to Canada.
