St. James was killed when the wingtip of his bomber aircraft hit the ground during a low-flying pass. It overturned and caught fire on the Aerodrome. Of the crew of five on the aircraft, 2 others were killed:Flt Sub-Lt Walter Albert Isaacs (22) (British) Flight Officer Thomas Reginald Weston (20) (British); and two were injured but survived: Flight Officer Vyvyan Holcombe Hervey injured (British), Flight Officer James Angus Smith injured (British).
