Cadet W L Thomas was appointed a 2nd Lt on 1917-08-02 and confirmed in his rank on 14 October. He was posted to France and joined 48 Squadron, at La Bellevue, on 1917-07-07. Days prior to Christmas 1916, the first deliveries of production F.2A Fighters were completed, No. 48 Squadron at Rendcomb the first squadron of the Royal Flying Corps to receive the type.
