Hodgson was posted to South-east Asia on 1918-06-01, but ended up at Coventry, UK, instead. On 1918-08-26 he was slightly injured when struck by the propeller of a Sopwith Pup, while stationed at 1 AAP, Coventry, England. On 1918-10-02 he was posted to 210TDS and to Shorncliffe on 1919-01-10. Otherwise he came through the war without injury. In civilian life he was a Canadian competition swimmer and considered by many to be the greatest swimmer in Canadian history. Hodgson won the two longer freestyle swimming gold medals at the 1912 Olympics, the only categories in which he competed.
