Carson joined the RFC in Canada and trained at 80CTS at Camp Mohawk. He was injured there in a flying accident, promoted to 2nd Lt.1917-10-13 and posted to Camp Everman, Texas as an instructor 1917-12-11. He was posted to 32 Sqn 1918-08-10, and to 92 Sqn 1919-06-28. He lived in Calgary, Alberta for many years, but his official residence was in the U.S.
