In April, 1916 he enlisted in the 220th Battalion (12th Regiment York Rangers) at the age of 17, with his father's endorsement. He transferred to the RFC on 1916-11-21 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was wounded in action on 1918-04-12, and saw no further action in WWI. He was demobilized 1919-09-19.

Captain William Leeming Harrison was cremated.
