Grant was assigned to No. 62 Squadron in France on 1917-06-17. He flew photo-reconnaissance missions with them until 1918-05-03, when he and his pilot were both wounded in action. His wounds were serious enough that he was evacuated to England for surgery. He was released from hospital on June 6, his duty with the RFC ended, and was attached to Canadian District Depot 13 on July 5, awaiting demobilization. In February, 1919 he was demobbed and returned to Canada. He lived in Vancouver after the war where his family had moved.
