Bromley enlisted in the 4th Overseas University Company on 1915-09-15. He was discharged in England on 1917-05-16 and received a commission in the RFC subject to successful completion of flight training which he did on 1917-05-17. As a Lieutenant in the RAF he was credited with 12 aerial victories by wars end. He was transferred to the unemployed list on 1919-05-20 and returned to Canada.
