Killed in a flying accident while attempting a loop. *L.S.* 1916-07-20: Whittier was flying in a Short 184 seaplane and attempted a landing at Calshott Naval Air Station. He hit the mast of a transport ship and crashed on its deck. He died in crash. FsL Ian Neil Carmicheal, Canadian, in the second seat, also died.
