1917-08-26: Shellington may have been unwell, he tried to return to the aerodrome but he side-slipped into the ground on the banked turn, and Shellington and his instructing-pilot, Lt Herbert William Hare Marshall (British) were killed in the crash. The aircraft was a complete write-off.
