Sexton died in the Camp Borden Military Hospital after an airplane crash in which he landed beside the crashed aircraft piloted by a student pilot, at one of the three Training Squadron aerodromes at the base on 1918-11-21 and in his rush to reach the pilot of the crashed aircraft, ran into the spinning propeller of his own JN-4, C-637 of No 93 (Canadian) Training Sqn.
