12 US Medium Bombardment Group ("The Earthquakers") B-25 Mitchell aircraft crashed near Sidi Barrani, Egypt due to enemy action. Pilot Officer HT Rennie (RCAF) was killed. Pilot Officer Rennie was one of a group of RCAF wireless air gunners seconded to this group in support of the British 8th Army to assist in communications because they were trained in RAF radio procedures and could speak "American". Pilot Officer Rennie was initially buried in the north-west corner of a large olive grove near Sidi Barrani, exhumed, and reburied in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kansas, USA with the rest of his US aircrew
