LAC Neal embarked the United Kingdom on December 4, 1941 on Athlone Castle and transhipped to South Africa on the ship City of Canterbury. He arrived in Batavia and was paid on February 10, 1942, there was no further record of him due to the unsettled conditions there. He was taken Prisoner of War by the Japanese on March 8, 1942 and died as a prisoner on June 2, 1945 at PoW Camp, Raha Moena, Ambon Island.
