1918-07-08: McLellan was the pilot-instructor on the flight. AM2 Herbert Suttle was piloting the aircraft. He was forced to land to do repairs and then took off, rose 100ft to clear a chimney, side-slipped and nosedived into the side of a hill, near Ashington. He died of injuries from the crash two days later. His student pilot was killed in the crash.
