McHenry was a Sarjeant in the Queen's Own Rifles Machine Gun Section before his transfer to the RFC as a Fight Cadet. He had already soloed when, on 1918-06-08, he was killed in an aerial collision at 195 Training Squadron, Rimal, Egypt while flying an Avro 504 (model not noted). The record does note: "Died [- Avro] Collision during fighting in the air. (Lt GW Neill)"
