426 Thunderbird Squadron (On Wings of Fire) RAF Linton-on-Ouse. Flying Officer J MacKay (RCAF) and Squadron Leader (then F/Lt) TM Kneale (RCAF) were involved in the crash of a rare aircraft 1943-10-19 while stationed at Linton on Ouse. Returning from an air test of BA Eagle 2 DP847 the port undercarriage collapsed Squadron Leader Kneale and Flying Officer MacKay survived the crash but would both be killed in action 1943-12-16 on 426 Squadron Lancaster II aircraft DS 837 OW-Q that crashed in poor weather conditions returning from an operation to Berlin, Germany |
