428 Ghost Squadron (Usque Ad Finem). The crew of Lancaster aircraft KB 725 failed to reach the target and returned from operations against Wiesbaden, Germany with one engine out and the other three losing power. The pilot overshot the landing and crashed on level ground between Elton and Long Newton, County Durham, England. Pilot Officer R. Playter was also killed. Four Canadian members of the crew were uninjured, and one of the crew, not Canadian, was slightly injured.
