Hyde was transferred to 35 Sqn as an observer/gunner on 1917-07-28. He was posted missing on December 1, 1917 when his aircraft failed to return from a contact patrol. The Army Council finally accepted him as dead on 1918-10-17, a mere 10 months after his failure to return was reported. 2Lt. John Mackenzie (British) was his pilot, who was also killed in the crash.
