408 Goose Squadron (For Freedom). The pilot of Halifax aircraft DT 750 EQ-U made a crash landing near Kirby, Wiske, Yorkshire returning after an operation to Cologne, Germany. Descending to land, the port outer engine caught fire and the port inner lost power as the pilot tried to regain altitude so that his crew could safely jump. Pilot Officer DC Horner (RCAF) baled and survived
