Killed in a collision with another aircraft 1917-05-01: Hartney died in BE2e, A-2743; when he collided in mid-air with BE2g, A-2901 and crashed during practice formation flying. The pilot of the second aircraft, 2Lt Alfred William Watson, (British) was also killed.
