Aircraft seen crashing in flames during aerial combat. *S.L.* 1917-07-07: Fotheringham and his pilot 2Lt John Victor Ariel Gleed (British) were posted missing from an offensive patrol. They were brought down by AA fire from 10,000 feet. Fotheringham died of his wounds later, as a POW. Gleed died outright in the crash.
