1917-04-23: Dunford and his observer-gunner Cpl. George Stewart were posted missing on 1917-04-23 from a photography flight over the 17 Corps front. Dunford was injured in a crash landing behind the lines and died of his injuries as a PoW 1917-04-24. Stewart was missing, presumed dead from the crash.
