Crowther enlisted in the 2nd Central Ontario Regiment and was later attached to the RFC. He was shot down by an enemy aircraft on 1917-10-31 and died as a POW 2 days later. His pilot, 2Lt William Davidson (British) also died in the crash. Neither body was found. Grave Marker at Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, McNab, Niagara Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada
